Italian Husbands – A Thin Pane Of Glass (SDR040)

10 Apr

What you are about to listen to is the reworking of dozens of tapes recorded in Sludge House, circa 2007. It was a cold house. It was home to the first noise parties in that prairie hell-scape of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. There are ghosts on our tapes: fragments of voices filtering in off the street, caught with microphones pointed out our windows. A drunk douchebag pissing in our garden was fuel for the noise as much as any guitar solo or buzzing amplifier. A friend once referred to our house as a beacon blasting noise and light into the night time. I remember it also as a receptacle. We sucked in any and all information in the form of stolen voices, dumpstered 4-tracks and tin can and plastic jug drums. What we gave back was not so much a noise beacon for the cars speeding along the freeway beside Sludge House, but something I think we hoped would be destructive, or at the very least, disruptive to the grey buildings, wide roads, harsh winds, drunk assholes. If you’ve lived in Edmonton you’d know why.

Since moving to the West Coast, we have been compiling and remixing (live with multiple tape decks) those original cassettes. This is the culmination of one such night. Locked in at Solder and Sons book store, we rocked a small PA hard behind the shop’s thin pane of glass. The voices and ghosts of Vancouver have made it in as well. Drug deals and angry yells of the run down east side are all too easy to hear through such a flimsy, transparent barrier. Listen in the dark and listen carefully. This recording is the abridged story of Sludge House.

Italian Husbands – Fucked Up Scenario

31 Oct

The Italian Husbands first mass released album, on Panospria, is a banger.  The albums first track “I take the last train every night.”, which is probably a great time to listen to this, starts off as a lo-fi mess before it transforms into an epic noise pop dirge, and the album continues less saucy, more bossy, but always leaving a stain on your shirt.  One half Holzkopf and one half Gold Rush, it blends like a dropshot, a truly psychadelic combination.  These lifemates are making music that throbs.  The entire album is free for download, as is the enitre catalogue of Panospria.  The boys, Jake Hardy and Trevor Rutley, recently graced the satge of The Ramshackle Day Parade, on October 22nd, stay tuned for the live recording of that, and beware of pictures floating around from that night.

Its that time of the month, ladies!!! This edition of the Ramshackle Day Parade is very special, probably the most special since the dawning of the RDP.  It is special because it brings The Godfather of Edmonton himself, HOLZKOPF. For those of you who have seen Holzkopf play, you need not read any further… I know you will be there.  Holzkopf is pure electronic bliss that will make your feet move, your head shake, and your brain will lag like a commodore 64 trying to play a youtube video…

That is not all though, Holzkopf is bringing along his tomato sauce covered lifemate, Trevor Rutley.  Together they are THE ITALIAN HUSBANDS, and again you best not miss it.

BUT WAIT!! the specials have not ended!!! there is more!  Edmontons own noise makers, ZEBRA PULSE and KRANG are playing as well…… but they play like every weekend…whats so special about that? well kiddies, THEY ARE PLAYING AT THE SAME TIME!!!! thats right, its gonna be like the Technodrome in this bitch!!!

and the specials keep rolling…. NO KNIVES will return to the stage, masked and loud….  I dont know how else to put it… other than, If you miss these two you will feel worse than the time you ate seven hot dogs and puked in your bed.
